When it comes to optimising the energy efficiency of our compressed air system, we at HUESKER rely on highly efficient screw compressors and energy-saving nozzles – so we benefit from high energy efficiency with savings of up to 70%. This reduces costs and at the same time protects the environment.
Since the invention of the bellows, compressed air has been an indispensable force to move things. However, it is also a fact that a considerable amount of electricity is required to produce the compressed gas. With the installation of our networked energy management system and the use of highly efficient air compressors, comprehensive measures were taken at the same time to optimize the use of compressed air.
Room for improvement in Gescher, Dülmen and USA
Compressed air energy is used in our machine cylinders and compressed air nozzles across all locations. For example, in the twisting mill in Dülmen, where we use compressed air to "twist" several threads into an intertwined yarn. The stabilized yarn strands are then required in Gescher for the production of our grids — also using compressed air. Accordingly, the energy optimisation of the compressed air system at both locations also took place. In Dülmen, highly efficient screw compressors were used, supported by a new sensor system for recording flows and compressed air consumption – so we know exactly where our compressed air is used and when. The compressed air pipeline network in Dülmen was also renewed and expanded in order to expand production capacities. Extensive analyses were carried out at the Gescher site, which enabled the targeted use of energy-saving nozzles. In addition, the pipeline network was renovated in order to minimise compressed air leaks and thus reduce energy consumption.

By integrating all parameters into our energy monitoring system, we have our electricity, gas and compressed air consumption fully on our radar. This ensures transparency — because every leak, no matter how small, is displayed, located and repaired. In this way, we achieve a significantly reduced CO2 footprint in our company.
